1st Party in Accra

Well, I bought too much food and too much to drink and fewer people than expected came. The non-existing decoration of my apartment was criticized and everybody was gone by 0:30 a.m. and the apartment cleaned at 1:00 a.m.

Since there are too many bottles of beer and liquor left, I will throw another party soon.

Technicians in Accra

This morning, I was astonished. At around 06:30 am I woke up and my cell phone was ringing in the living room. I went there and found out that the technician, who was supposed to connect me to the landline yesterday, tried to reach me at 06:30 am on a Saturday... I then called him and learnt that he would be at my place at 10:00 am to connect me to the telephone line. Well, he came at 12:05 pm.

I have no idea why anyone would try to call someone at 06:30 am on a Saturday. I wonder, who is going to call on Sunday morning :-)

Apartment in Accra

It is Sunday, April 17th - my sister's birthday - and I am still in my hotel room. Why? Good question. I was supposed to move into my new apartment last Friday...

However, yesterday it was still just partly furnished, dirty (probably never cleaned...), without water and electricity. Considering the advance lease payment for 12 months, I am a bit aggravated.

Well, but it does not come unexpected.

Also, when I wanted to buy the basic household equipment, which I need, the big South African supermarket chain could not accept my credit card. Thus, I could not even move to my new apartment, even if I wanted except if I wanted to sleep on the bare mattress :-)

Back to Africa.

"Everything in Africa bites.
The lion bites, the mosquito bites, the tse tse fly bites.
But what bites the most is Africa herself,
and when she bites,
she never lets you go."

Source: unknown - at least to me.

Ugandan Newspapers

In Uganda, pictures are not always linked to the text in the newspapers. A striking example is today's article about the courtmartial of Col. (rtd.) Dr. Kizza Besigye in The Sunday Vision.

Well, I wonder, whether I find the article related to the picture, too ;-)
