Being homosexual is a big issue in Uganda
One issue, which really irritates me is the manner how homosexuals are treated in Uganda. This is again something which contradicts my liberal attitudes. My mindset seems to be completely contrary. Please look and see:
"Students warned on homosexuality
STUDENTS caught engaging in homosexual activities risk being suspended indefinitely, the education ministry has warned. The commissioner for special needs education, guidance and counselling, Martin Omagol, said the vice was on the increase in secondary schools. He said he had asked secondary school headteachers to take punitive action against the errant students. Omagol was on Wednesday addressing over 600 headteachers during the senior five selection exercise at Kyambogo College School, where about 95,000 students were admitted to various schools and training colleges. “We have received reports that homosexuality is on the increase in our schools. It is up to the headteachers to act swiftly and stop this evil from spreading further,” he said. He added, “This is unacceptable in our culture and headteachers must do what it takes to fight it. It is against our morals but it seems school heads are not doing much to prevent it.” Omagol said the habit was growing faster in boarding schools. “I am not going to mention the schools but I ask the headteachers to act very fast. The ministry is considering a statute in connection with homosexuality,” he said. Several headteachers preferred not to talk about the issue for fear that their schools would be blacklisted. President Museveni in 1999 ordered the Police to arrest homosexuals."
