Demonstrations last week
On Thursday, I witnessed the demonstration of the Democratic Party. Fortunately they were not chased away with tear gas this time. And well, of course the Movement rally had not to fear anything. It was just annoying, because my friends and me could not move as freely as we were used to in our residential area.
Moreover, Friday morning, I was kind of trapped in the Movement Rally for the Referendum. Well, while I was in the car, I was able to take some pictures with my mobile phone (finally found any use for this usually useless feature). Later, I wanted to take proper pictures with my my digital camera. However, the soldiers did not allow me to take any pictures from the crowd on the airstrip. Well, and there are certain things I do not do and among them there is "messing with soldiers who carry automatic weapons".
And, maybe someone can tell me, why the soldiers positioned machine guns on tripods (you know, those that Sylvester Stallone used to hold in each hand) and had rocket granade launchers every 15-20m at Wampewo Avenue and Upper Kololo Terrace? What did they fear? Me? A German brick shithouse equipped with a phone and a digital camera on a mountain bike? And why did they hide their weapons under green blankets?
BTW I: My bruises still hurt. I should not trust everybody, who is older than me. My common sense should hve told me that it was a stupid idea to swim in those rapids, when the water level is so low.
BTW II: Yesterday, I experienced the first power cut since I am in Uganda.
